What is a mixture?
A MIXTURE is the physical combination of 2 or more substances; each retaining its own properties.
There are two types of mixtures:
In a heterogeneous mixture, the distribution, or arrangement of the components varies throughout the mixture.
In a homogeneous mixture, the components are distributed evenly throughout the mixture.
When one substance dissolves into another, forming a homogeneous mixture like Kool-Aid, then a SPECIAL mixture is formed called a SOLUTION.
Tea, coffee, soda, salt water, sugar water, lemonade, air, tap water.
The particles of the solute in the solution cannot be seen by the "naked eye" because they have mixed evenly.
Mixtures and solutions can be separated by physical methods such as sieving, filtering, evaporating etc. This means that the change can be reversed. A new material is NOT formed.
